Jass Kaselaan will open his personal exhibition Grandmother's Birthday in Draakon gallery at 5pm on Tuesday, December 17th, 2019.
 
"When I was a child then my grandmother taught me never to stroke a rat backwards - it can get freightened and become angry. We lived in a small house full of rats. On cold winter nights some of the rats climbed to grandmother's bed to look for warmth. I cannot remember grandmother's last birthday; I know that she got flowers as a present."
 
This is Jass Kaselaan's short introduction full of imagery to his new exhibition where the artist presents a large-scale installation applied to both the walls and the floor of Draakon gallery.

Opening of the exhibition is on the 12th of december at 18.00

Buoyed by the winds of perestroika in the late 1980s, Siim-Tanel Annus (1960) appeared on the international scene as a unique performance artist. During the profound stagnation years, he created mystical semi-secret performances in his garden. The most famous was Passages (1987), which was accompanied by Ariel Lagle’s original music. Today, the artist has moved on from the performances that brought him fame as an artist in the past, and deals primarily with pictorial creation, which also inspired his past performances. The exhibition juxtaposes the documentation of his performances with his graphic art from various decades, including the present.

The international exhibition of contemporary art, “Disarming Language: Disability, Communication, Rupture”

The international exhibition of contemporary art, “Disarming Language: Disability, Communication, Rupture” will open at Tallinn Art Hall on 13 December. Works by 13 artists were selected by curators Christine Sun Kim and Niels Van Tomme. The exhibition will be produced in cooperation with the Office of the Chancellor of Justice and the ARGOS Centre for Art and Media in Brussels.
 
The curators consider it important to break down the biases surrounding disability and have therefore selected works by disabled artists exhibited at the top galleries of the world, from the Guggenheim to the Tate. “By exploring the wide-ranging practices of disabled artists, we ended up seeing a common thread of artists and artworks unpacking ideas relating to language and communication.

The opening of the exhibition is on the 13th of December at 18.00.
 
The exhibition The Old Man and the Musical Score is a little gem composed of the works of Kaarel Kurismaa that are relatively unknown or never seen before. Amongst his artwork, which as a rule does not distinguish between mainstreams, days, and centuries, his oil paintings are the ones that can be dated the most clearly; his fun side is depicted in his collages and his basic truths binding his multi-faceted creation become apparent in his drafts and sketches. The visitor is greeted by an eternal retrospective love column with majestic monumentality and soul-stirring symphony of detail.

”Metamorphoses are changes, distortions, transitions. Something turns into something. Paintings depict trivial living environments and symbols of eternity. This exhibition is a retrospective and ironic illustration of time running its course. /---/ 

What gets left behind from us after our physical demise? A lifeless sculpture? A metaphysical reflection of things that we have touched? A bodyless being on Facebook? A play with a moment and with eternity, sad-ironic, meaningless-transient.

Opening of "Check in, check out" on Wednesday, December 4th 2019 at 6 PM

Three Estonian artists have collaborated specially for this artistic appearance in Great Britain.

They are presenting an installation together with performance on special opening event finishing their 2-week residency in Working Man Gallery.

Custom-built centerpiece of the exhibition will comment on global phenomenon of living and working abroad as well as adapting to new ways of communication, traditions, constant planning of logistics and it’s effects. Using objects, gallery space, movement, interaction with audience and multiple references artists have created an environment establishing impression of moving and standing still at the same time.

Exhibition is open on Saturday 7, 14, 21 December 1 - 5 PM or by appointment

Johannes Luik and LAURi will open their co-exhibition Twilight Zone in Hobusepea gallery at 6pm on Wednesday, November 27 th , 2019.
 
The title of the exhibition refers to a state existing between two values, without being neither of these. The way the status physically manifests itself in space is something that is being endlessly created and re-created through daily activities that relate to the space. Both artists are exhibiting one artwork through which they study the story of a personal space and related associations.

Mari Roosvalt's personal exhibition "Beyond the Sea"

Mari Roosvalt will open her personal exhibition Beyond the Sea in Draakon gallery at 5pm on Monday, November 25, 2019.
 
The artist presents newly completed paintings that are accompanied by the sound installation by Örnólfur Eldon Þórsson and Krõõt-Kärt Kaev.
 
Mari Roosvalt contemplates on her current exposition as follows: While living by the sea and observing its constantly changing force of nature day by day, I find myself asking: What does „beyond the sea” really mean? Is it about its depth or anything else? The climate change, a global or local catastrophe? My attempt as a painter is to discuss these issues through minimalistic yet extremely colourful and biomorphic images full of vitality. The picked photographs that resonate to the present day have become increasingly important in my artwork. While turning the surfaces of canvases into immense stagings, I am moving towards the format of free painting where nature and art are densely correlated.

Tallinn Art Hall and Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava present the joint project “Body Space(d)”

Tallinn Art Hall and Sõltumatu Tantsu Lava present the joint project “Body Space(d)” 27–30 November, bringing together pairs of artists from the Estonian visual arts and dance scenes to collaborate on unique one-night-only performances.  
 
Curator Evelyn Raudsepp has invited the following pairs of artists to create performance pieces at the Art Hall: Edith Karlson and Sigrid Savi, Rene Köster and Mark Raidpere, and Flo Kasearu and Renate Keerd. On three consecutive nights the results of these collaborations will be presented and concluded on the fourth night with a diverse programme in a shared space featuring discussion and music.
 
The programme will be opened by the ruminations of sculptor Edith Karlson and performance artist Sigrid Savi on whether cowboy wisdom can survive in the wild west of one's mind.
